If a trailer you are towing starts to sway back and forth, you should:

Trailer sway (fishtailing) amplifies with braking or steering — you risk a jackknife. Easing off the throttle reduces energy in the system; keeping steering straight lets the vehicle self-correct. Trailer brakes (if equipped) can be gently activated manually.
