After placing warning triangles for a disabled vehicle on a highway, they should be positioned:

Triangles alert at distance — typical placement is 30 m, 50 m, and 100 m back from the disabled vehicle so successive drivers see a layered warning. At night add flares if available. Always place triangles only when it is safe to walk behind the vehicle.
