A steady yellow traffic light means:

Ontario road sign — Stop if you can do so safely; otherwise proceed with caution
Show Answer & Explanation
Correct Answer: B. Stop if you can do so safely; otherwise proceed with caution

Yellow is a warning that red is about to appear. The safest driver stops well before the stop line; entering on yellow is legal only when stopping would be unsafe (too close to brake without skidding or rear-end impact).

Why the other answers are wrong

  • A.Speed up to clear the intersectionSpeeding up is the main yellow-light crash cause.
  • C.Stop and waitNot all stops are safe — sometimes proceed with caution is correct.
  • D.Yield to cross trafficCross traffic will have red; yield is not the yellow meaning.
